Want to calm and center? Then look to your feet!

The power of meditation and breath is undeniable.   It’s been around for years.   There’s a meditation class in every suburb and the power of long slow deep breathing has been proven over and over.    But there’s another aspect to calm and centre the body and ground us back down to the earth.

And it’s simply called ‘Earthing’.

Have you ever wondered why something as simple as a walk along the beach feels so good?   It’s more than just the sand, the water and ocean air.   There’s an undeniable electrical charge.

A great friend of mine gave me the book titled ‘Earthing‘ a few years ago and I’d never heard of the concept before.    But now all those relaxing walks on the beach make so much sense.   The reason it’s come up for this blog post was after a conversation I had with a girlfriend over lunch today.   She’s facing some serious work stress, health stress and life changes are huge for her at the moment.   I know she’s barely holding herself together but she’s looking forward to a week at the beach soon.

Unless you want a diamond grill like Kanye – keep your medical cover!

Stress can lead to teeth clenching.

Teeth clenching leads to broken and worn down teeth.

Broken and worn down teeth lead to expensive dentist visits.

So it doesn’t matter how healthy you think you are.
Stress can get a hold of us when we least expect it.   For me – it’s while I sleep!

This is a short post today as I needed to get the message out there about the tricky ways stress can affect us.   We know, because we hear it all over the internet, that stress creates things like weightgain, poor sleep, mysterious illness and heart disease.    The list is really very long.

Should I detox?

If you want a happy bowel, beautiful skin, want to lose a little weight and excess fluid – do it!

detox

There’s so much out there about detoxing the body.  How necessary is it and what do we choose?

There’s lemon detoxes, herbal and chemical detoxes available from the local chemist or your naturopath. I’m sure all of them have their individual benefits, but I’ve just experienced one that is famous for cleansing the liver and ridding the body of excess petrochemicals, toxins and particularly mercury. Today, now that it’s all over – and it was only a 7 day process – I feel great and my skin looks fantastic. So this blog entry will be to tell you about my experience.

Would you like to talk to me about our simple Detox and Liver Support plan?

If so, just email me on annen@tpg.com.au or maybe we can meet over a coffee or skype call for a totally obligation free chat.

To HRT or not to HRT – the conversation we have to have.

We want to know about it but don’t want to talk about it.

So I’ve been seriously talking about it!

And let’s get it straight before we begin – it really is just that.   A conversation.   I’m not a doctor or a self appointed doctor like you see on the net sprouting what I feel is BS advice like ‘eat lots of greens and you’ll get over it’!   I keep it real.    So if you’d like simply some honest opinions and some sharing of experience read on.

How I accidently found the simplest solution to anxiety!

With the conversations I have with midlife women and the workshops we do, there are a few key concerns that always come up.

diet,
gut issues,
menopausal symptoms,
anxiety,
depression,
lack of sleep,
night sweats,
midlife liver roll
the foods that exacerbate symptoms and what foods make us feel better.

Today’s post will concentrate on depression and anxiety and what I personally found to be an amazing mood lifter.

7 lessons I learned to kick the midlife ‘liver roll’ and ended up looking younger

It took time, I made mistakes, I failed many times but in the end, we have to learn how to care for ourselves.

For too long we can be all about caring for everyone else, but here’s a summary of 7 ways I learned to keep on top of my health and basically to stop myself from going insane.  Like I said, it was a struggle and at times I slip back.    I love my cheesecake, chocolate and red wine but when I see the midline roll creeping out over my shiny yoga pants, then I know I need to pull my head in and get back to work.    And it takes work – I’m in my 50’s now.   It’s no walk in the park.

The relationship you have with yourself will be the most important of your life.

8 Week Journey to Total Transformation

“A woman’s relationship with her body is the most important relationship she’ll ever have. More important than husband, lover, children, friends or colleagues. This isn’t selfishness – it’s just fact,”

says health and fitness expert Diana K Roesch.

“The body is, quite literally, our vehicle for being, for giving, for loving, for moving, for feeling – and if it doesn’t work – it’s fairly certain that nothing else in our lives will work either.!”

When I heard that quoted by Diana I knew it resonated big time with me and many women around me. If we don’t keep ourselves fit, strong, healthy and keep up a good strong healthy dose of self esteem, then we’re of no use to anyone, particularly ourselves. From one end we’re bombarded with unreal magazine images that are impossible to attain and from the other we’re misled into all sorts of food and nutrition myths that lead us even further down a path of misinformation, poor health and eventually disease.

Managing the Menopausal Mindfield – yes ‘mindfield’ as well as the ‘minefield’

Actually, I should readjust that title and call it ‘Managing the MANY Menopausal Mindfields’.

Which one applies to you?   And I do mean ‘mind’ field and not the traditional ‘mine’ field.   A lot of menopausal and midlife intensity levels have a lot to do with what our mind tells us and how it can get a grip of us.   Are you dealing with many varied symptoms or have you sailed through it all and come out injury free?   This is a quick blog post that I hope can steer you to some serious info that you’ll find helpful.   I’m a true believer in taking our health into our own hands and that came with some study and detective work.

Disclaimer:

You do need to do what your physician tells you – but if it’s ‘here take this anti-depressant’ or ‘just go on HRT’ without giving you options or discussion WHY they are saying this to you, then make sure you either get a second opinion or do some self study.   I want to help steer you to some great authors.

How to get the skin we want to keep forever

It’s not rocket science to figure out that women are concerned with how their skin looks with every year that passes.

There’s literally billions of posts and advertisements out there that appeal to the woman who’s not happy with her skin.    Our skin is both an internal and external organ and I’ve soon learned it ages in two ways.    What dermatologists and experts out there like to call ‘intrinsic and extrinsic’  ageing. Intrinsic ageing is all about what we’re doing to ourselves on the inside.    How we eat, whether you smoke, drink too much alcohol or caffeine and if sugar plays too big a role in our diet.  It all contributes to ageing skin.    Extrinsic ageing is our environment and how we treat our skin.   It’s what we have control over like the food we eat, the product we use, whether we expose ourselves to too much sun and outer elements.   So what you slap on the outside is only half the picture.  What goes on on the inside and the other things we do for our skin and our general health completes the picture.   Whatever product we choose needs to be as chemical free as possible and as loaded with nutrients as possible. ab fab agedI love this shot of my favourite AbFab girls – and it does get the message across.   Keep up those ciggies and the alcohol, especially the sugary type and they’re ‘ subtlety’  giving us the ‘ here’s how we’ll look’ message. I agree with the quotes below.

I’ve been on a search for the perfect skincare for years.

Over 50?   In that case, consider yourself part of one of the biggest demographics on the planet today.    The older woman holds more power and influence than she ever did in years past.

Being ignored by employers?  Partners?  Other decision makers?   Or do you feel ignored by life itself while you find yourself looking after everyone else but yourself.
