You could say I’m pretty obsessed with the midlife woman and all she goes through.
That might be because I am one, and have dealt with a plethora of symptoms, changes, turning points and realisations. Let me start by saying I’m not a doctor, nor am I the expert but I am certainly an eternal student.
Forever learning!
My subject is – how to achieve a healthy, purposeful, active, luscious and hot looking midlife.
One where you don’t rely on drugs or artificial substances, where you can eat without denying yourself and feel amazing and actually create the body you felt you left behind in your 30s.
So pretty much most of the blog posts you read here will point to that subject.
It will include everything to do with eating, drinking, thinking, moving and creating the life and body you want – when you’re over 40 or 50 even. If that’s something that might interest you – hang in here with me and read on. Grab a cuppa – just leave the muffin where it is however! I’ll share recipes too that still feed that sweet tooth without packing on the liver roll.
So how did I get here? Well besides the years flying by too darn fast, after a hysterectomy 10 years ago I’d had enough of hot flushes, night sweats, dry skin, crying easily even in commercials, sore joints, a non existent libido, a fatty liver that was near impossible to shift, a lack lustre approach to life and business and a foggy brain that took quite a while for information to sink in. You know that feeling – needing to go back and read the last paragraph?? A few times??? Yep, I can wait while you do that…..
Here’s something the average midlifer might not know!!!
DID YOU KNOW THAT WHEN A WOMAN TURNS 50 SOMETHING AMAZING HAPPENS TO HER??!!
No really, I mean it! It does.
Many years ago when I was laying on the couch nursing my hysterectomy scar, feeling totally hotflushed and not interested in anything, I found myself watching the Oprah show. Around that time, she was pretty much the only distraction in my day that really brought comfort. I learned something every time. Well this particular day she was interviewing Deepak Chopra. Another legend and favourite of mine!!
She’d just turned 50 and was talking to him about where to from here. He made it totally clear that at the age of 50, a woman’s potential goes THROUGH THE ROOF. In every possible way. Well I was about 47 at this time, so thought ‘ right, I’m on a mission – need to get this sorted. I only have 3 years. 50 isn’t far – I’m going to do this’. But there were so many symptoms in the way. And it’s still an ongoing journey – but boy oh boy, I can share some realisations and some changes have certainly happened.
Do you ever have those turning points in your life? You hear something, someone tells you something or you read something and it hits you like a wet fish to the face? THIS was one of those moments.
That was the day my detective work and taking my health into my own hands had begun. No more doctors flippant ‘take a tablet’ attitude for me. My health mission and many books, webinars, coachings, seminars, a health certificate and yoga instruction certificate later – I feel I have a story to tell.
It’s just the beginning. Keep in touch with my blog posts, I want to show you how we midlife women can be more vital, stronger, sexier, healthier and wealthier than you realise. I’ll post as I learn, experience and even let you know about my failures. There’s been a few!
What to do now?
Leave a comment, send me a question. What midlife issues are you going through and what kind of help have you been searching for?
Great thoughts! Not quite there yet, but only another seven years until fifty, and I realise it is approaching. Just getting my head around what / where I would like to be at that stage of life – let’s see! (I’ll be interested to see what you come up with 🙂 )
In that case Helen, know that when you DO get there, you’re equipped to make it brilliant.
Love to touchbase again Anne! needing help to get rid of the sugar and the glass of wine \(or three) for relaxation and stress control each night! are you in the northside? Cheers Terri
