Whoever said Anxiety and Weightgain is normal in midlife needs to read this.

It’s the most common thing to happen at midlife, but it shouldn’t be!

Someone said to me a while back ‘weightgain is normal at midlife.   Everyone gains weight’.  And I believed her.   So what happened?   I gained weight.   Lots of weight.   To the point where every photograph I saw of myself made me cringe.  Remember – what we believe will manifest.   What we ‘expect’ turns up.  I expected it, so it turned up!   I avoided being in front of a camera whenever I could get away with it.     My burgeoning ‘apple shape’ was not attractive at all and it was a sure sign of insulin resistance.

I used to be a Personal Stylist and taught women all about body shapes.   I remember talking about pear shapes, columns, diamond, hourglass etc.   Then when it came to the apple shape, I’d show my audience how I was the apple (big bust, big middle, thinner arms and legs) and explain ‘how to dress it’.  We apple shapes would be a little restricted sometimes with our choice of shapes that would flatter.   I’d also mention the apple shape is not necessarily healthy.   Seriously – the apple shape is SO not healthy.   That expansion under the bra right over the liver is dangerous.  Cute name for a body shape – but not where I wanted to be.   Pears and hourglasses, while in proportion are far more healthier and normal than apples.

Rebellious Wisdom for business, life and relationships! Why we all need some.

If I said the words ‘rebellious wisdom’ to you, what would come to mind?

As soon as I heard those words they impacted me firstly with feminine energy. Sorry guys, but there’s nothing masculine about it. This is a girl thing.  I know it’ll mean different things and have a different vibration to the reader depending on where you’re at in your life.   To me they speak to the sacred strong, ‘out there’ woman who has experienced a lot of what life has thrown at her, refuses to give into any conditions, controls or norms but has come out stronger, wiser and more visible with an aura of ‘time to be truly myself and be darned if I’ll conform to another’s expectation’ kind of vibe.

How I eliminated my biggest 2 midlife issues – Flushes and Fatigue

Hot flushes and fatigue  –   Could these be the two biggest?

I know there’s more – but for now, let’s just look at the ‘top 2’.   Any more, and I’ll be writing a book!   Stay tuned for my next post and I’ll be addressing Anxiety and Weightgain.

Let’s start on a positive note as this blog is meant to be that – rejoicingly positive because the menopausal stage needs to be one of adventure, rebirthing, new life and a time to face the 2nd half of life with positive anticipation and put behind us all that’s happened in the first half.   I don’t mean to sound like a Pollyanna, so for those of you who are sticking your fingers down your throat right now, just hold on a minute.   I know, I know it’s not necessarily how we feel when we’re unable to sleep at 3am, can’t stand the furnace that’s going off inside us at the most inappropriate times and the general fatigue that accompanies it but really it’s a time of unrivalled empowerment. It really is.  Or it CAN be – hang with me here.

Relief for aching knees and why surgical intervention should not necessarily be your first choice

My personal account of my own aching knees and what I did for them.

No scalpels involved.   YET!!

I’ve been living with a sore left knee now for about 3 months. I don’t recall an injury.   It popped up quickly and with sharp twingy pain.   It worsens when I sit at the computer for a while and at night when trying to sleep.   I can walk and do my yoga – so go figure??

knees sore2

When I started my yoga practice a number of years ago, I entered my first class with a sore swollen right knee, which hampered much of my practice.   An expert said to me that it’s a ‘typical midlife condition’ and that yoga would contribute to its healing. And I must say it did.   My pain and swelling went away – TOTALLY.   And it’s not returned.   So I also now know that maybe I was facing an emotional/spiritual change in my life as Louise Hay would say your knee pain is a sign of rigidity, not flexible, not moving forward.   My new yoga and meditation learnings were certainly a move into a new realm and low and behold the knee pain totally disappeared.

Now my left knee is playing up.

One key habit that undermines our weightloss efforts and how to turn it around.

There’s one habit most midlife women find the hardest to shake to undermine their weightloss efforts.   Make it work for you, rather than against you, and weightloss becomes so much easier.

What is that one habit?

A glass (or three) of alcohol every night.  I can talk about this subject – because it was me a few years ago.

wine

Why at midlife?   In my experience of working mostly with midlife women, many of us have one weakness.   We love a glass of wine (or three) with our evening meal.  I’m not judging whether we should or shouldn’t, I’m simply going to give you the picture.    (Sugar does the same thing, but for now, let’s talk about alcohol).
